What materials are commonly used for pump impellers?

The use of stainless steel and bronze for pump impellers is due to their excellent durability and resistance to corrosion. Stainless steel offers high strength and resistance to oxidizing environments, making it suitable for applications involving aggressive fluids or demanding conditions where longevity is important. Bronze, on the other hand, has good corrosion resistance and is often used in marine applications or when pumping water due to its ability to resist wear and fatigue.

These two materials are particularly favored in applications where the impeller must withstand high pressures and corrosive media while maintaining performance efficiency. In contrast, other materials like plastic and rubber might not withstand high temperatures or pressures, while wood and aluminum are typically less durable in demanding pumping scenarios.
